Fitting Confidence with Nordstrom's Prosthesis Program

PCF proudly partners with the Nordstrom Ala Moana bra-fitting team to bring their exceptional Prosthesis Program to Maui. This initiative, led by Certified Prosthesis Fitters Rachel Endow and Amanda Dela Cruz, provides our clients with specialized bra fittings, breast forms, and other post-mastectomy essentials—all with the care and expertise that Nordstrom is known for.

Each month, Rachel and Amanda fly to Maui to hold fittings at Kaiser, offering a private and personalized experience to ensure every client feels comfortable and supported. Their program goes beyond products, offering compassionate guidance and answers to questions clients may not have even thought to ask. Whether it’s pocketing any bra in their collection, assisting with insurance claims, or finding the perfect post-surgery fit, Rachel and Amanda’s mission is clear: to help women look and feel their best after breast surgery.

Here’s a closer look at what makes this program so impactful, and how Rachel and Amanda are making a difference in the lives of Maui’s cancer community.

What inspired you to become a Certified Prosthesis Fitter, and what do you find most rewarding about your work?

The most rewarding part of our work is the connections you make with the people. It is really a turning point in their lives and we are able to provide them with the next step of their recovery.

Can you share a memorable moment or story from your time working with your clients?

The age demographic to me is the most memorable. We have seen patients as young as 14 that are going through breast cancer to women in their 90s coming in for their first fitting after mastectomy/lumpectomy.

What advice would you give to someone who might feel nervous about attending their first bra-fitting appointment?

Appointments typically take one hour. If you are filing a claim with your insurance, a prescription or referral is typically required. What to bring: A Valid driver’s license, your insurance card(s)/Medicare card, a Debit or Credit Card, and your Prescription/referral/authorization. We are a participating provider for selected insurance companies and are contracted with major insurance carriers, including but not limited to: Aetna, Cigna, Kaiser Permanente, BCBS/HMSA. We offer assistance in filing your claim with Medicare on your behalf. Please check with your insurance carrier to determine your eligibility for benefits.

How does Nordstrom's Prosthesis Program differ from other options available to women after breast surgery?

The options we show you will include the same bras that we offer all our Nordstrom customers, and our in house alterations team is able to pocket ANY bra we offer in store or online at no charge. You can meet with one of our experts in the privacy and comfort of our Lingerie Department for personalized advice on brands, fit, sizing, insurance questions, and more. We have a selection of breast forms and shapers to restore symmetry after surgery, lumpectomy & mastectomy bras compatible with breast forms, recovery care bras made to accommodate mobility limitations, and bras that can be altered to feature a pocket for prosthetic breast forms. You could be eligible for bras even if you have had reconstructive breast surgery.

What do you hope to achieve with this partnership between Nordstrom and Pacific Cancer Foundation?

Outer island patients going through breast cancer cannot always fly to Oahu for health, financial, or childcare reasons. Thank you for the opportunity for us to extend this service outside our 4-walls and reach patients that cannot come to us. We are so grateful for this partnership.

What’s one thing you wish more people knew about post-mastectomy care or breast prostheses?

We are here to support you in your breast cancer journey and will go over the options that we offer and answer questions about prosthesis or insurance. There is no charge for the fitting and when you decide you would like to move forward, we are able to go over the financial responsibility based on your insurance coverage.

How do you tailor the fitting experience to each individual client’s unique needs?

You will be able to try on different prosthesis options and see what bras and prosthesis will be best for your lifestyle.

What does resilience mean to you, especially in the context of helping cancer survivors feel confident and empowered?

Working with people who are overcoming adversity like cancer is a reminder of what is important in life. Our health, the people around us, keeping a positive perspective, is a daily affirmation we live by when working with patients in different parts of their cancer journey. We hope they leave feeling like they’re getting closer to looking and feeling their best.

Upcoming dates for Nordstrom's Prosthesis Fittings are March 28th and April 1st & 2nd. To schedule an appointment, call Rachel or Amanda at 808-953-6100 Ext. 1240.
